The west Valley writers' workshop
Welcome to the West Valley Writers' Workshop!
We’re a group of writers primarily based in the West Valley of Phoenix, Arizona, although some members join us from far and wide thanks to the movement of our meetings onto a virtual platform.
Our members consist of writers at all stages of the learning process—from aspiring and brand new, to published both traditionally and via self-publishing—who are working on everything from poetry to screenplays, memoirs to fantasy novels, picture books to blog posts. We bring a diverse set of knowledge and skill sets to all our meetings, so we can all grow and improve in a fun learning environment.
Besides this website, you can find out more about the group and our meetings on the Meetup.com platform. There are two meetups and thus two ways to join the fun:
MONTHLY WORKSHOPS
Held the first Saturday of every month from noon to 3pm, our monthly workshops focus on helping aspiring and published writers alike meet their goals--to get published, find readers, and figure out what they want to write and how to do it.
Previously held at the Avondale Civic Center Library in Avondale, Arizona, world events resulted in the meeting changing to a virtual platform, so attendance is possible from anywhere.
Each month, a visitor or member of the group makes a presentation about strategies that have worked--or not. Our group has a wealth of experience and a willingness to share. We help hone skills and discover new avenues.
Not sure? Come to a meeting and find out. First-timers tell us our meetings are enjoyable. Please RSVP on the site, here: https://www.meetup.com/westvalleywriters
THURSDAY EVENING CRITIQUE GROUP
If you're looking to hone your craft or make your writing as great as it can be, you may have heard about the benefits of having critique partners.
This critique group includes highly experienced writers with a lot of knowledge to share, as well as writers who are just starting out. It's a welcoming, non-judgmental place to share the pieces you've worked so hard on--where you'll be met with not only excellent writing advice, but also kindness and encouragement.
The meeting runs from 6pm to 9pm MST (Arizona time) on Thursday evenings, and it is held on a virtual platform. The larger group is broken down into smaller groups to ensure everyone gets a chance to share and receive feedback.
We welcome members with all genres and types of writing, at all stages of learning. Discover more and RVSP for a meeting (please read the instructions to RSVP), here: https://www.meetup.com/West-Valley-Writers-Critique-Group
Please go to each respective Meetup site (as linked above) to RSVP, check for any last minute updates or cancellations to meetings, or contact us with any questions about the meetings.
Want to support the group? Consider following us on Facebook or purchasing one of our anthologies full of works from talented West Valley Writers (proceeds of sales go toward hosting our meetings and other group activities).
